And it's true!  A new pair of shoes can feel pretty great, and a new purse is nice, but the easiest way to express your personal style is through great jewelry - and perhaps the easiest way to upgrade your jewelry collection is by zeroing in on a new sterling silver pendant.

Question:

Have you started your spring cleaning yet?  It feels great to throw open the windows to a warm--but not too warm--breeze, replace the heavy blankets with cotton throws, and shove those boots and sweaters somewhere out of sight.

But do you go through all of your jewelry at the end of winter? No? Think about it...

When warm weather arrives, even the most modest among us shows much more of herself: our necklines dip and our arms are exposed for all the world to see.

You know you're beautiful as you are, but... what are you rocking? The same old necklace your partner bought you for, what was it?  Your second anniversary? And wait a second, is it tarnishing? That's no good.

Quick-Facts

Here are some facts about silver according to Facets Gem &Mineral Gallery:

  • People have loved the shiny, white metal since at least 3100 B.C. when Egyptian rulers were receiving items crafted from silver as gifts.
  • Silver is very malleable and can be crafted into almost any shape imaginable, making it highly customizable.
  • It's because of this malleability that an alloy, typically copper, must be added to the silver to strengthen it. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7.5% alloy metal.
  • Vermeil, pronounced Ver-May, is silver electroplated with 100 millionths of an inch of plated gold.

So one woman's piece of jewelry, her pendant or bracelet has a really good chance of being unlike anything her friends have?

Exactly. And when you add a stone to it, and the setting for the stone, it's even more individualized.

Here's a great tidbit from the United States Geographical Survey:  "Of all the metals, pure silver has the whitest color, the highest optical reflectivity, and the highest thermal and electrical conductivity."

Have you ever been driving and been temporarily blinded by your silver bangle?  Or suddenly realized that same silver bangle was extremely hot from your car's heater blowing onto it? There's your reflectivity and thermal conductivity!

But, back to the list, then on to the joy of the sterling silver pendants!

Consumers love silver jewelry for a lot of reasons--it's also useful for more than just its beauty. The Silver Institute tells us about three main ways it's used:

  1. Industrial applications of silver accounted for 594.9 million ounces of silver in 2014!
  2. 196 million ounces went to coins and medals.
  3. And, finally, 215 million ounces were used for our favorite: jewelry.

Where does all this silver come from? Won't we run out?

Well, according to a Silver Institute survey, mine production and demand are both steadily rising. Should you buy up all the silver jewelry you can lay your hands on?

Yes, of course, you should buy a lot of silver jewelry. However, don't do it because you think the prices will skyrocket anytime soon.

By all means, before you invest - and every fine jewelry purchase is an investment - you may certainly take a look at how silver is doing on the world market. Today, in mid-April, it's up!

Roman glass mounted in silver

Our own research suggests that Roman women loved all kinds of pendants.  In fact, they considered the pendants symbolic of their wealth and status in society.

Our company name, Roma, honors the tradition of powerful women who love to accentuate their own beauty with a beautiful piece of jewelry.

As part of honoring that tradition--and also just because it's stunning--we mount a great deal of Roman glass. That includes in sterling silver pendants with real glass from ancient Roman artifacts.

The glass, which was originally part of a household object such as a drinking glass or vase, is typically uncovered at dig sites in Israel. More often than not, only shards are recovered, but from time to time most of an artifact is intact!

When you buy one, you know that you're wearing a 2000-year-old piece of history. Not only that, the piece has a story behind it--most likely the story of a busy woman just like you.

Gems mounted in silver

Though every woman would do well to add some silver-mounted Roman glass to her jewelry collection--especially with summer approaching--other mountings are just as enchanting.

Amber, for instance. Amber is a hard, honey-colored material that was created from trapped plant resins over millennia. Sometimes entire insects or flowers are trapped in the amber and make a breathtaking piece of jewelry.

One of our customer favorites is a moonstone pendant set in stunning sterling silver.

Swarovski crystals, always popular for their elegant brilliance, are also beautiful in silver.

The crystals are manufactured in Austria since 1895 and are now sold all over the globe.

The point

The point is, you know how fabulous it feels to toss out what's old and broken and hasn't served you in years: old sandals that have just had it, the shirt that hasn't fit right in a couple years, and most importantly, that dull, tarnished "jewelry."

It's okay to "spring clean" your jewelry. You'll feel as fresh and new as your aired-out house with a shiny sterling silver pendant around your neck--especially one that only you would choose.

Sterling silver pendants are a personal statement piece.

Maybe you already know this, but in case you don't, costumeiscounters Jewelry has been showing and selling at Costco for over 10 years.

We've sold over a million pieces of jewelry at these shows to loving spouses...but mostly to women just like you.

Consider each show a real-life treasure hunt. Why? Because we add new pieces daily and you never know if you'll find an ancient treasure, an Italian masterpiece, striking Baltic amber, an unusual shade of Swarovski crystal, of beautiful Preciosa.

Phew! The list goes on! Discover the treasures first-hand at a show in your town.

Is there a show coming to a Costco near you?
